Welcome to the heart of the RMIS elementary experience: the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).
This transformative journey, which covers the period from kindergarten to grade six, has a focus on shaping the whole child, both as a learner and a responsible individual engaged in a long-term learning adventure. By putting the child at the centre of education, we stimulate their natural inquisitiveness and enable them to have the necessary means to see the world with an open and critical mind.
The PYP is a transdisciplinary approach as students study ‘big ideas’ across the disciplines of maths, science, and language. Students explore the real world issues across six global themes such as “Who We Are” and “How the World Works” through inquiry based learning. This enables students to be actively involved in their learning as they have the opportunity to have a say and choose what is important to them.
As students transition into the 6th grade, they learn key skills from the IB Learner Profile and become principled thinkers and effective communicators. The last step in this transition process is the PYP Exhibition, a collaborative research project where our oldest primary students put their competencies into practice in trying to address today’s local and global challenges. We want you to join us as a part of our dynamic learning community as we inspire our children to become compassionate global citizens ready to make a positive difference in the world.
