Welcome to the heart of the RMIS elementary experience: the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).
This transformative journey covers the educational years from Kindergarten to Grade 6 and is focused on nurturing the whole child—not just a student but a lifelong learner valued for the active care they gives to learning. By putting your child at the heart of their educational process, we stimulate curiosity in children and give them the skills enabling them to explore the world in an open and critical manner.
The PYP is structured in a transdisciplinary manner, which means that students are allowed to learn big ideas through traditional subjects, such as maths, science, and language studies. The six transdisciplinary themes are “Who We Are” and “How The World Works.” These themes allow students to use inquiry-based education, which helps them to study subjects within the context of real problems. The use of this approach allows students to control their own learning.
As they move along the path to Grade 6, students cultivate fundamental characteristics of the IB Learner Profile and become those who show integrity in thinking and confidence in communication. The culmination of their experiences is the PYP Exhibition, which is a collaborative inquiry project that allows our oldest primary students to show off their proficiency in dealing with various challenges on a local or global level.
